What is writing? Writing is the art of expressing one’s ideas and a way in which an author can deliver their message to their audience. The art of writing can take many different forms and each form may require a suitable medium for which it can be delivered. Each piece of writing has its own set of rules and requirements, thus it is crucial that a writer in training knows learns how to do and approach each form of writing. Throughout the course of The Writing for the Science class I learned to own my skills in the different forms of writing, aid in making others better their writing skills, and also learned new writing skills that I will, from now on, utilize to transform my writing for the better. With the help of the Course outline, I will demonstrate some of my discoveries.

One of the first things in writing is to figure out your purpose for writing. When writing a essay it must have a thesis which tell the audience what is the purpose of your essay. For example, in my rhetorical analysis essay covering Tim O’Brien’s New York Magazine cover of the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial, my thesis was to analyze the rhetorical situation of the cover and what elements did the illustrator use to convey his message. After finding my purpose and thesis I thought about what stance was appropriate for the type of essay I was doing. Some essays require a neutral stance, some want you to have your own stance; in the case of my rhetorical analysis essay, my stance was to persuasively educate my audience on how and why O’Brien cover illustration successfully represented his belief that Mr. Simpsons was a guilty man set free.

The Literature review essay was the first group assignment that was given this semester for this class. I had two  group member who were amazing people to work with; they would come to group meetings which i orchestrated of the zoom meeting platform, and they would do their part of the work. We would notified the each other on important information just incase the other missed it. After the Literature review, we had the creation a Public Service Campaign then create a presentation showcasing our Campaign’s website to our peers and professor. With all these group collaborating opportunities, it made me remember that others input/opinion matters especially in a group. You need to be able to each power with others, be respectful, and learn to trust in others ability to carry out their work.

When reading over my section in the literature review I had to keep in mind to stay cohesive to the theme of the overall project for it was a group project in which two over members would be adding in their section.  We had one thesis but different sections of the project. The overall topic was Finances in Medicine and my section was Medical Debt and Hospital Billings. Our revision would be done in zoom meeting where each meet would raise concerns about any problem in the essay than we would find a way to fix it, editing would come right after revision but our major editing would be done after peer review.

Overall, the journey of improving my writing was not all sunshine and rainbows; there were moments when I felt unsure about how it was going to pan out, then I remember that writing has a process and it you follow through with it and practice then you are guaranteed to improve. So if you falter at any point in your writing journey then just get up and try again, everyone makes mistakes.
