Self-Assessment

3. Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation.

My Rhetorical Analysis was centered around the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial, in which he was given the verdict of not guilty. More specifically, the essay focuses on the featured New YorkMagazine Cover, illustrated by Tim O’Brien, which based on the illustration, showcases Mr. Simpson as a guilty man who got away with murder and was happy with the outcome.

My essay’s purpose was to pick apart every detail that O’Brien used on his magazine cover to convey his message and opinion of the O.J. Simpson trail verdict, then analysis how each detail adds to the Cover’s rhetoric. The use of color, body language/facial expressions and strategically placed wording was analyzed so my audience can understand O’Brien’s true opinion which shows that a guilty man is happy to get away with murder.
